If you’re looking for a breathtaking hike in the Bavarian Alps, this panoramic trail on Mount Jenner is a must. Easily accessible via cable car, the route takes you from the summit down to the mid-station, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys along the way.
Start your adventure with a 20-minute cable car ride from the valley station in Schönau am Königssee to the Jenner summit station, located at around 1,800 meters above sea level. As you ascend, enjoy your first glimpses of the impressive alpine scenery and the emerald-green Königssee far below
From the summit station, follow the well-marked trail along a wide ridge to the “Kleiner Jenner” peak.
Take your time here—this section offers spectacular views of iconic peaks like the Watzmann, Hoher Göll, Untersberg, and the Schlafende Hex. On clear days, you can even spot the Kehlsteinhaus (Eagle’s Nest) perched on the ridge across the valley.
The spectacular location of the Eagle’s Nest is also particularly impressive and can be seen perfectly from here. This is also where the paragliders take off – with a bit of luck, you can watch the colorful gliders in the sky or watch them take off.
You might catch paragliders launching from the nearby take-off point—an impressive sight! There are also entrances to two via ferrata routes (secured climbing paths), including one that’s beginner-friendly and suitable for families.
After a sharp turn, the trail gently winds down to the charming Mitterkaseralm hut. It’s the perfect spot to take a break and enjoy a slice of homemade cake or a cool drink in a peaceful alpine setting.
From there, the trail continues through blooming alpine meadows. In summer, cows graze here, adding to the authentic mountain atmosphere. It’s a truly relaxing walk with nature all around you.
The hike ends at the Jennerbahn mid-station, where you can grab another refreshment before catching the cable car back down to the valley—or keep hiking if you’re feeling adventurous.
The Königsblick: Tip for photographers
Before you start your hike on the mountain, you should definitely make the 70-metre ascent to the “Königsblick” viewpoint. The view from here is unforgettable: Königssee lies below, framed by steep cliffs and the dramatic east face of the Watzmann. It’s one of the best photo spots in the region!
